So here in the UK we've got a new government and as one would expect, the media have been falling all over themselves with speculation both in the run up to and the freewheel down from, the election. Leading up to it, all screens and publications were awash with the glum, downtrodden, dejected, miserable, awful HUNG parliament. Now that it's all done, we have the more mature, somewhat prim, somewhat propper, wonderfully well turned out COALITION government. Nice that.
In a sense, though, aren't all governments supposed to be coalition governments, of a sort? Don't we expect them to work together for the benefit of all the people in the country? Naïve it may be to consider that politics may be run without the beuracracy and the interplay and back room deals but isn't it also a tad too cynical to consider them pre-requisites when playing the game?
If we are to rise above the mistakes of the generations preceding us in order to pave the way for the generations who follow, perhaps the fault lies within ourselves for accepting undignified and belittling behaviour as both commonplace and a means to an end. Perhaps it is time for us to put aside small and petty behaviour if what we truly intend to achieve is the affirmation by deed rather than word, that we are capable of good and we are capable of making our society more than what it was?
